School Visits and Tours


A variety of tools are available to schools, organizations and individuals interested in learning about the Federal Court system.

Federal courthouses are a popular destination for student field trips. Tours of the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit are scheduled regularly January through May.

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan is home to the Historical Society Museum: The Court and Its History. The museum, which is the first of its kind in the country, chronicles the history of the Eastern District of Michigan, describes its growth, includes profiles of its most famous cases and provides biographical information on judicial officers. The museum is located on the 1st floor of the Theodore Levin United States Courthouse at the Lafayette Boulevard lobby entrance.

Courthouse Tours

Detroit

From January through May, the U.S. District Court in Detroit schedules tours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. for students in grades 9 through 12.

Student tours are generally led by attorneys and include a speaker from a law enforcement agency, observance of a court proceeding, and a tour of the Eastern District of Michigan historical courtroom.

The program which is sponsored by the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, in conjunction with the judges of the Eastern District of Michigan, can accommodate up to 60 students per tour.
