Message from Chief Judge Sean F. Cox

Welcome to jury service in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. A trial by jury is one of the fundamental rights which we enjoy in this country. Through your service, you ensure that this right is guaranteed to all in our community. The Court makes every effort to ensure that a fair cross section of the community is represented in the jury pool. Jurors do not need to have special skills or knowledge. What they do need is an open mind, a complete sense of fairness and the ability to exercise good judgment.

The Court recognizes that participation in jury service can be inconvenient and may necessitate sacrifices by you, your family and your employer. It is important to keep in mind that service by citizens as jurors is indispensable to our judicial system. I am confident you will find your experience to be both satisfying and rewarding.

Thank you in advance for your service to the U.S. District Court and to the community.
