The Court shall be in continuous session for transacting judicial business on all business days throughout the year. The Electronic Case Filing (ECF) System is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Although a District Court is deemed "always open" for the purpose of filing any pleading, see Fed. R. Civ. P. 77(a), the Clerk's Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is closed on weekends and the following federal holidays:

(*): If the federal holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, it is observed on Monday. When a determination has been made that the Court and the Clerk's Office will be closed on a specific weekday, advance notice will be given to the media and the public. In situations where advance notice is not possible, information will be provided as soon as is practicable.

After normal business hours, on weekends, or on a holiday, persons filing documents electronically that require immediate attention by the Court are instructed to call the United States Marshals Service Control Center at 313-234-5656 after the documents have been filed.

The Control Center is normally staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, it may be left unattended for short periods of time. If this happens, the caller will get voicemail. The caller should leave a message, stating the reason for the call and providing as much specific information as possible, and leave a telephone number where the caller can be reached. Messages will be returned promptly and Control Center personnel will then contact appropriate Court staff.
