Laurie J. Michelson was sworn in as a Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan in February, 2011. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1989 and her law degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1992. After law school, she served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Cornelia G. Kennedy of the United States Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit (1992-93). She then joined Butzel Long in 1993 where she practiced in the areas of white collar criminal defense and media/intellectual property law. Magistrate Judge Michelson serves as President of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan and is a member of the state Bar of Michigan. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of Trustees of Eton Academy andthe Detroit Goodfellows.
