Parking Information

Attended street lots are nearby and parking structures are within walking distance to the courthouse. Parking rates vary depending on the lot you choose. Metered parking is available on Fort Street and in the general area.

Identification and Security Requirements

Valid picture identification is required for entry into court facilities within the Eastern District of Michigan, and all persons are required to pass through security similar to airport screening. Firearms, knives (including pocket knives), explosives, and other weapons are prohibited. Also prohibited are potential weapons such as scissors, letter openers, mace/pepper spray and screw drivers.

Restrictions on Cell Phones and Other Communication Devices

Non-attorneys are not permitted to bring cell phones (including BlackBerrys) or any other device with wireless communication capabilities into court facilities within the Eastern District of Michigan. As defined in the provisions of E.D. Mich. LR 83.31(f)(2) attorneys appearing in connection with any judicial proceeding or presenting evidence of bar membership may bring a cell phone or any other device with wireless communication capabilities into a court facility within the Eastern District of Michigan. The following attorney conference rooms have been designated for attorney cellphone use: Rooms 117, 218, 705 and 864.

Building Hours

The Lafayette Blvd. entrance is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Fort Street entrance is open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Parking Information

• Two to four hour free parking is available in front of downtown Bay City destinations. Check the signs posted on the sidewalks for hours and limits.
• Lots at Saginaw & Fifth, Center & Adams, Washington & Sixth or Water Street offer three hour visitor parking. Look for the green visitor parking signs at the entrance to each lot.
• Saginaw and Third Streets offers some free three hour parking sections.
• Third Street offers free all day parking in some sections.
• Jurors should refer to the parking instructions included with their summons.
• Check the street signs! Parking enforcement considers any car in violation if the car exceeds the limit or moves to another location within two blocks and exceeds the limit.
• Questions regarding parking should be directed to the Downtown Management Board & Development Authority at (989) 893-3573, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Parking Information

• The parking facilities closest to the courthouse are the Rutherford Garage (W. Kearsley & Beach St.) and the City of Flint Public Parking Lot (E. Kearsley & Saginaw St.). Rates are $5 to $10 per day. The Rutherford Garage requires a credit card to enter and exit. The public lot accepts only cash.
• Metered parking is available in the general area but you may not have time to leave the courthouse to pay meter charges and the Court is not responsible for parking violations.
• The Court assumes no responsibility for damage to or theft from any car while parked at any facility or lot. A claim for damages or loss must be settled between you and the parking firm.

• Metered parking is available on the streets surrounding the Federal Building (6th Street, Military Street, etc.). If metered parking is not available on the street, additional metered parking is available in a lot on the southwest corner of 6th Street and Pine Streets.
• DO NOT park in the Michigan Mutual Insurance Company or the Chemical Bank parking lots. If you do so, your car may be towed.

Members of the general public, including spectators and witnesses, are not permitted to bring broadcasting, photographic, or recording devices into the building, and therefore smartphones and similar devices are prohibited without specific advance permission. A limited number of storage locker facilities are available. Attorneys and jurors are permitted to bring devices into the building, but such devices must be powered off unless permission is given for use.
