Print Guideline

The court conducts a jurisdiction review on each case filed. If, in a diversity case, the plaintiff fails to specify the citizenship of each party or to plead the amount in controversy, the court will typically issue an order to show cause why the case should not be dismissed (or remanded) for lack of subject matter jurisdiction, and will not dismiss or remand cases sua sponte without notice for lack of jurisdiction. The court expects the parties to raise jurisdictional objections as soon as possible.
