Biography

Magistrate Judge Binder was appointed as a part-time Magistrate Judge in February 1984, and as a full time Magistrate Judge in October, 1984. He is married with two children. Magistrate Judge Binder received a B.A. degree (cum laude) from the Lee Honors College, Western Michigan University in 1971, and graduated from the Duke University School of Law in 1974. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Law Clerk to United States District Judge Wendell A. Miles, and practiced law in Grand Rapids and Bay City, Michigan.

Magistrate Judge Binder is a member of the Federal Magistrate Judges Association, the Bay County and Federal Bar Associations, and serves as a Visiting Faculty Member in the Department of Law, United States Air Force Academy.
