Biography

Mona K. Majzoub was appointed to the bench of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan as a Magistrate Judge on January 6, 2004. She earned both an undergraduate degree (B.A., 1970) and a graduate degree (M.A., 1972) from the University of Michigan. She was a student at the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon (1971 - 1972) where she took graduate courses to augment her M.A. degree. She received her J.D. degree from the University of Detroit in December, 1976. In 1977 she began her legal career in Detroit with a law firm which was then primarily engaged in the defense of professional liability matters, representing mostly health care organizations, physicians, and corporate institutions. Her legal practice encompassed multiple practice areas including professional negligence, hospital liability, product liability, employment, insurance and personal injury.

Prior to her judicial appointment, Magistrate Judge Majzoub was active in numerous professional and community organizations. She was a founding Board Member of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), Michigan Chapter in 1980. She served as President of the Arab American Bar Association from 1987 - 1994, after holding the office of Treasurer of the same organization from 1982 - 1986. She was invited onto the Board of Directors for Family Services in Detroit and Wayne County and served from 1988 - 1990. From 1986 - 2003 she served as a Member of the Board of Trustees of St. John Community Hospital (formerly Saratoga Community Hospital). Magistrate Judge Majzoub also participated for many years as a Case Evaluator for the Wayne County Mediation Tribunal. In addition, she has enjoyed memberships in multiple local and national bar associations.

Since her appointment to the Federal Bench, Magistrate Judge Majzoub has been voted a Member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter and has also been selected as a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.

In 2006 she was asked by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law to serve a three year term as a Master of the Bench for its American Inns of Court program. Her participation allows her to work with law students, practicing members of the bar, and other judges in a pupillage team format to teach students specific tools of litigation and professional conduct.
