Postponements and Excuses

Requests for a postponement or excuse must be made in writing. You may use the "Remarks" section on the back of the qualification questionnaire or enclose a separate letter. Include a statement of facts relating to the hardship and the earliest date you can serve. Medical excuses require a statement from your doctor, with an explanation as to why you cannot serve. Students must provide a letter from their school registrar. Mail your request with your qualification questionnaire to:

Where to Report - First Day of Service

On your first day of service, report to the Jury Assembly Room in the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. The Courthouse is located on West Lafayette between Shelby and Washington Boulevard.

If you are selected to serve on a trial, the trial will be held in the Port Huron Federal Building. Additional information will be provided at that time.

Parking in Detroit

In Detroit, you may park in any of the surrounding public parking facilities. When appearing for jury service, you will be responsible for paying your parking fee. Parking rates vary depending on where you choose to park. You will be reimbursed up to $10 per day for parking. The parking reimbursement will be included in your check for attendance which will be mailed to you approximately two weeks after your attendance.

If Selected to Serve on a Trial - Where to Report in Port Huron

If you are selected to serve on a trial, the trial will be held in the Port Huron Federal Building located at 526 Water Street, between Military and 6th Street.
