Memorial Service in Remembrance of the Late Retired U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor

  A memorial service in remembrance of the late retired U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul. The church is located at 4800 Woodward Ave., Detroit.

 

Judge Taylor died Nov. 4 in Grosse Pointe Woods following a brief illness. She was 84. 

 

She was appointed to the U.S. District Court bench in Detroit in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter and was the first black female district judge in the U.S. 6th Circuit, which includes Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. She took senior status in January 1999 and retired in January 2011.
